How to stop windows update using Settings
It is an easy method to turn off or stop windows updates on the window system using the settings option. Anyone can refer to this option and turn off updates. Refer to the following steps to disable windows update using settings options.
1. Open Windows Settings Option
2. Open “Update and Security.”
3. Click on Windows Update
4. Click on Advanced Options
5. Under the pause option, select the date until you pause the updates in windows 10.
Disable Windows Update in Windows 10 Using Update Services
1. Open Run window – by clicking Windows key + R
2. Type the program name “services.msc” and enter to continue
3. Under services local option, scroll download and double click on option “Windows Update.”
4. Now, a Windows update properties local computer opens with the options. On the startup type option, choose “Disable” and click on Apply to save the settings.
How to disable Windows Updates using Group Policy
On Windows operating system, the local group policy editor allows you to enable or disable windows updates in windows 10
Note: Group Policy Editor option is not available on windows 10 home edition. If you are running windows 10 professional or a pro, you can disable windows updates using the group policy editor.
1. On Keyboard click – Windows key + R
2. On-Run window – Type: gpedit.msc and press enter
3. Now go to computer management -> Administrative Template -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
4. Double click on Configure Automatic Updates
5. Under configure automatic updates, you can check with 3 options, i.e., Not configured, Enabled, and Disabled. Choose the option “Disable” to turn off the windows update.
6. Click on the “Apply” option to save the changed settings in Windows.
How to Disable Windows Update Using Registry
You can also disable windows update in windows 10 using the registry option. This option is not recommended because changing registry values may cause damage to OS installation.
1. Open Run – by clicking Windows Key + R
2. Enter “regedit” and press enter to continue
3. Click on the “Yes” option to continue
4. On Registry Editor, follow the path
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
5. Right-click on Windows folder -> Select New -> Key
6. Name the new Key Folder to Windows Update and enter to continue
7. Right-click on “Windows Update” -> New -> Choose Key
8. Name the Key to AU
9. Right-click on newly created Key AU -> Select New -> click on option “DWORD (32-bit) value.”
10. Name the key to NoAutoUpdate and enter
11. Double click on the key and update the value from 0 to 1
12. Click Ok to apply the changes.
